I frequently see comments that humans are at an all-time high consciousness, or that human consciousness is rising rapidly. These comments often come from someone who has a “world vision” they feel compelled to share or refer to ecstatic experiences. Often consciousness refers to the political process and making the “right” choice. These examples are all ego-based and indicative of low consciousness.
Consciousness is the understanding that there is a higher power at work in the universe and there is no separation between God and our true essence. It is also an awareness that as an individual, we can only control and make changes within ourselves. When we possess higher consciousness, we understand that we are not victims of our circumstances. We can embody truth, courage, acceptance, reason, love, beauty, joy, and peace despite what is happening in the world, or what has happened “to” us.
Consciousness is not just happy thoughts. And it also is not about ignoring pain in the world. We cannot change the world by what we say or do. Consciousness means choosing to remain nondual, to not choose sides. It means not fixing others. We change the world by what we become, by the consequence of who we are in the world.
Can you measure consciousness?
Thoughts are not consciousness. We are our consciousness, and we store it in our bodies. Kinesiology is used to measure consciousness because muscle strength cannot be maintained in the presence of an untruth. Consciousness is literally measured by our body’s response to truth.
Consciousness levels are measured on a scale of 1-1000, with shame at the very lowest level of consciousness, barely compatible with life. Notice how you feel when you are with someone who carries shame. Consciousness cannot stay within the body, and so it flows out to everyone and everything around that person. Shame feels like life is sucked out of us and that is a pretty accurate description. Someone at a level of 500 or above has consciousness levels that reflect love, joy, and peace. Consider how you feel when you are in the presence of someone with high consciousness. Noticing how you feel when you are around others can help you start to understand how consciousness is about being, not thinking or doing.
Look for causes, not effects.
We are a world of problem solvers, so we jump to fixing the effect, the result, instead of looking for the cause. When only the result is considered, we work backward, trying to create new solutions without understanding the “why.” It is more effective to look for the cause of an effect and change actions at the root. World hunger is a great example. If people are starving the assumption is that food is scarce. But if we notice that obesity is also a problem, we have more information. The root cause of world hunger, as well as most other human problems, is low consciousness at levels of shame, guilt, apathy, fear, and anger.
Most people do not raise their consciousness level at birth by more than five points in their entire lifetime. “Courage,” at the level of 200, is necessary to make meaningful changes in consciousness. And courage means being willing to be “different” from those around you. Becoming “different” is the only way to break out of an existence of fear and anger.
