Consciousness

Call it consciousness, soul, Holy Spirit or even great love

Consciousness is our ability to be awake, aware, and discerning of the impact of our actions affecting our life and the lives of those around us. It is taking responsibility for who we are, where we are, and how we are in this world. It also means understanding that we each have free will and the ability to exercise that will and to experience the consequences of our choices. Call it consciousness, soul, Holy Spirit or even great love, consciousness recognizes there is something much greater than us at work within us and in the world.

I was recently surprised by this quote in the book Power vs. Force, by David R. Hawkins “…the average advance in the level of consciousness throughout the global population is on the average little more than five points for a lifetime.”  Over a lifetime average of 70+ years, most people don’t learn how to wake up, to uncover their Divine Nature, or to develop spiritually in any meaningful way. We don’t get any wiser because the risks and lessons that promote wisdom are avoided by most people. Many resist any type of spiritual growth, preferring to hold tightly to belief systems that keep them at lower levels of consciousness. The preference, it seems, is to just get through this miserable life with the hope there is something better “out there.”

It’s amazing how even a small change can affect the consciousness of an entire country

Consciousness allows us to overcome our survival fears so that we can evaluate risk and take new actions. Without consciousness, we sleepwalk through life, never being present to ourselves or to others. We need greater consciousness to dream and to create, and to live into our Divine Self-Expression.

We measure consciousness on a scale of 1-1000, where a minimum resonance of 200 is necessary for truth to be present. Love is present at a resonance of 500. At 600 there is peace and beyond that we have enlightenment. The current level of consciousness in the United States is 207, down from a high of 214 in 2016. It’s amazing how even a small change at a relatively low resonance affects the energy of an entire country. The level of consciousness of Facebook is around 175, the level of pride and well below the level of truth.

Spiritual practices help to rewire our brains so we can be present

Spiritual practices interfere with our unconscious habits. They help to rewire our brains and our way of being so we can be more awake and present to ourselves and to others. Then we notice things we are hanging onto, and we gather the courage to let go and step into a new level of our own Divine Nature. We make new choices, and we begin to experience new results.

The outer work can never be small
If the inner work is great
And the outer work can never be great
if the inner work is small.

~Meister Eckhart, 14th-century Christian mystic
