Do you ever feel like you are starting to live into your divine self-expression? It feels like positive energy, being in the flow, finding your purpose in life.
And then someone comes along and tells you that you are wrong, inappropriate, bad, or shameful. That you are falling short of their expectations. That you’re weird. Judged.
We want so badly to belong, to get along, to be thought of as good or nice. But this kind of decision to just blend in may be a negative choice for who we are at soul level.
A negative versus a positive choice is not a moral or ethical judgment of an action. A negative choice is one that is not congruent with your Divine nature. A positive choice for someone else may be a negative choice for you when it does not align with your Spiritual gifts and who God created you to be.
“At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit, or further away from it.” ~Thich Nhat Hahn
Most people make far more negative choices than positive choices. Negative choices are the ones that keep us feeling safe, keep us in relationships, and help us feel like good people. Negative choices have very deep roots as they were the choices that helped us survive as a species. They are choices made by the ego. Negative choices often feel like the easiest choice and the best way to just “get along.”
“Our personality is a mechanism from the past, perhaps one that has helped us survive until now, but one whose limitations can now be seen. We all suffer from a case of mistaken identity: We have forgotten our True Nature and have come to believe that we are the personality.” (Understanding the Enneagram, p. 12)
The consequence of making negative choices is a loss of Vital Force Energy, which results when you separate from your true self. Vital Force Energy is the positive energy we get from God (Or Divine Source or Creator). When we lose Vital Force Energy, we become separate from Divine Source and from our true self. We put on masks, and we try to please or fit in with the people around us. We lose our connection to God and our connection to self as we work to assimilate.
“In this divine birth I find that God and I are the same: I am what I am and what I shall remain, now and forever. I am carried above the highest angels. I neither increase nor decrease, for in this birth I have become the motionless cause of all that moves. I have won back what has always been mine. Here, in my own soul, the greatest of all miracles has taken place-God has returned to God!” ~Meister Eckhart
In claiming your divine birth, you begin to listen to who you are at soul level, who God created you to be. You claim that piece of God, given uniquely to you, and you begin to shut out those who try to influence you to be who they want.
“This is movement toward full incarnation.” ~Henri Nouwen, The Inner Voice of Love
